I have recently added open water swimming to my workout and I like having some extra propulsion for getting in and out of the surf and fighting currents and wind. These fit the bill perfectly. These will give your legs an additional workout so be prepared for some initial fatigue until you build up the muscles. After a couple of days I don't notice the fatigue anymore. You are definitely faster in the water so you will cover much more distance. I swim for time so it makes no difference to me 30 minutes is 30 minutes regardless of the distance. These provide enough propulsion that I would consider them for a set of travel fins for snorkeling or even scuba in light conditions. They are great for catching waves body surfing. They are spendier than their counterparts but they got great reviews for my intended uses. I haven't tried the other body boarding type fins so I can't make a comparison to those.
