I am a surfer living in San Diego, CA and this vest is great gear for the summer IMHO, when the water is 65F-70F.
I prefer this vest to rash guard when the water is too warm for wetsuit. I feel warmer during extended surfing sessions and it shows off my guns! If you are a skinny surfer, don't buy this one, it won't look good on you :)
I surfed all last summer in it and I am satisfied. Will still surf in it this summer.
The water does flow from underneath very easily, so the vest is nowhere near as warm as 3/2 wetsuit.
I bought this vest because I wanted a bit more insulation under my 7mm wetsuit and I had already purchased a separate neoprene hood. I mostly dive the California coast where temperatures range from 48-52F at depth. This rash guard is really comfortable and keeps the water from flushing.
